Why Genealogy?

I have been fascinated with genealogy for quite some time. As a child, I remember my grandfather Clyde Clayton Secord, Sr. always taking pictures of the family and putting them into albums. He would also take the old home videos and he would spend countless hours cutting, splicing, and narrating. Alot of the information on this site, especially on the Secord side of the family, came from my grandfather's books and photos. I guess it was he who planted the genealogy "bug" within me.

After my grandfather passed away in 1989, my father took all of his albums, and home videos and has been tinkering with them off & on since.

A few years back, I decided that I would give genealogy a try. Being a computer nut, I started checking out software that would aid me in my genealogy quest. I have tried many different applications, but for me Legacy Family Tree has been the one that I always go back too. I guess I'll stick with it. Anyway, I then wanted to be able to put my genealogy records online, so I searched for a decent piece of software that would allow me to do that. I first came across PhpGedview, but wasn't really happy with it. I then found TNG, which is what I am running now, and I really like it.

So, to answer the question "Why Genealogy?" Well, the genealogical interest has been in my family for as long as I can remember. As far as I know, it started with my grandfather documenting his ancestors and has pretty much been passed down to me. Fortunately, I have technology at hand that wasn't available to my grandfather, but he used what he did have available, which has made my quest quite a bit easier.
